Examinations
There are three examinations, each of which concludes a period of study:
Examination 1 After the first period
Examination 2 After the second period
Examination 3 After the third period
In principle Examinations 2 and 3 are planned for June/July or January/February.
The
Assessment is not an official examination, but the recommendations made to the student during the Assessment are intended as guidelines. The Assessment is held at the end of term 4.
Examiners are appointed per examination by the examination committee from a limited number of tutors. The examiners are allowed to consult the study dossiers of the candidates.
The examiners determine the provisional result immediately after the holding of the examination. The student is informed orally of this provisional result. The examination result is ratified after scrutiny by the examination committee. The student is informed of the result in writing. If a student is failed on certain parts, the examination has to be retaken.
Repeating parts of the course or examination is only possible if the length of study still available to the student or the length of validity of the examinations already passed allow it.
All examinations are public. The committees of examiners and the examination committee meet in closed sessions.
Examination Committee
The examination committee consists of the heads of the departments of Architecture, Urban Design and Landscape Architecture.
Course and Examination Protocol
A course and examination protocol is available for the full formal regulations on examinations. It contains the formal regulations that apply in the Academy, which derive from the Law on Higher Education and Scientific Research.
Students who do not agree with the result of an examination can put their arguments to the examination committee in writing within five working days of the date on which the definitive examination result is announced. On the basis of this, the work and the verdict, the appeal is reviewed within five working days of its receipt to see whether it is founded or not.
If so, the examination committee appoints a new committee of examiners which reaches a decision on the basis of the same work as soon as possible, and no later than ten working days after the statement that the appeal is well founded.
Appeals
It is also possible to submit an official appeal against an examination result or any other decision by or on behalf of the examination committee to the Examinations Appeal Board of the School of the Arts (Cobex). More information about the Examinations Appeal Board can be obtained from the Study Adviser and from the Central Office of the Amsterdam School of the Arts.
